Can You Hear The Calling?
In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!’ “Yes, Lord,” he answered. Acts 9:10 NIV
On a recent business trip, I had a layover at one of the busiest airports in the nation. To kill some time, I decided to grab me a bite to eat and return to the gate until my departure time. I love music, so I grabbed my air pods and turn on my favorite playlist. They were a lot of people moving and other distractions taking place which catch my attention and help passed the time. I found myself getting catchup in the hustle of the people and didn’t hear the calling that my flight was boarding. Finally, the gate agent announced last called to St. Louis and I grabbed my bags and ran to get onboard. With all the distraction going on, I didn’t realize I wasn’t in position to hear the call.
This had me ask the question, are we in the right position to hear God’s calling?
God’s Word in Acts 9:10 shows us where Ananias was in the right position to hear God’s call and answer it. We have a lot of distractions that keep us from hearing God’s call (family, work, social media, school, etc.) But what are we doing to put ourselves in the right position to hear from God? Are we spending time reading his word, praying, and making time for worship? If not, we should make time for God.
So, my charge to you today is to make time to hear God’s calling and be ready to answer “Yes, Lord!”
